Job description

We’re on a mission to accelerate the energy transition with sustainable home energy for all and it’s our goal to help 3 million households transition by 2030. That is why we're seeking a highly motivated and ambitious person that’s not afraid to make their hands dirty and make a real dent in the climate change challenge that we are already facing. Are you ready to rise to the challenge?

As a Project Lead Mechanical Engineer, you won't just design products — you'll be crafting the future of home heating solutions. From heat pumps to cutting-edge cooling devices, you'll be at the forefront of developing a full ecosystem of sustainable energy solutions. If you're driven by the challenge of combating climate change and thrive in a hands-on, innovative environment, this role is for you.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the development, execution, and delivery of mechanical components for our revolutionary home heating systems.

  • Utilize CAD software to design parts and assemblies that meet rigorous functional, design, cost, and weight requirements.

  • Generate detailed 2D drawings and manage release processes for components and assemblies.

  • Collaborate closely with industrial design teams to integrate mechanical designs seamlessly into new product developments.

  • Drive excellence in packaging, GD&T, and overall fit and finish of our products.

  • Specify materials and contribute to prototype builds, simulations, and physical testing.

  • Champion Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles.

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure designs meet customer, installation, and service requirements.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain technical documentation, including BOMs, DFMEAs, and testing plans.

  • Own testing strategies for mechanical components and coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers.

  • Proactively manage change requests to ensure continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Manage development with hardware suppliers and contract manufacturers, driving outsourced design to specification strategies for efficient and effective collaboration.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry experience considered a significant advantage.

  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Solidworks, Fusion 360, or similar tools.

  • Strong expertise in sheet metal design, plastic injection molding, and/or piping and couplings is highly desirable.

  • Experience with change management and product lifecycle management.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • A self-starter mentality with a willingness to take ownership and drive projects forward.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.

About Quatt

Quatt is an ambitious scaleup that was founded in 2021 by two entrepreneurs and brothers from the Netherlands. Our goal is to accelerate the transition to sustainable heating in the Netherlands and abroad. Our first product is a smart, hybrid heat pump for the Dutch market.

The Dutch government is strongly incentivizing 8 million homeowners to get rid of natural gas and start heating sustainably within the next few decades. Unfortunately, the current pace of heat pump installations is far too low. Therefore, Quatt is improving the overall customer experience, adding smart control software, simplifying the installation job and, last but not least, greatly enhancing the aesthetics. By doing so, we want to increase adoption by an order of magnitude.

We are developing a highly advanced control system based on several AI technologies, like Machine learning and Deep learning. This system enables us to operate our heat pumps, in conjunction with already installed natural gas heaters, in the most cost- or energy-efficient way, at any given day. We estimate this can reduce heating costs by about 20%. By combining this with D2C sales & installation, Quatt is aiming to reach a payback time of 3-4 years; and thus a very quick uplift in sales.
