Senior Backend Engineer

As we’re planning to install 3.000.000 heat pumps by around 2030 we're seeking a highly motivated and ambitious person that’s not afraid to make her or his hands dirty and make a real dent in the climate change challenge that we are already facing. Are you ready to rise to the challenge?

As Senior Backend Engineer you will join our App & Cloud team. You will work closely with our other engineering teams, which build the hardware, embedded software and controller for our heat pump, designing and implementing features across the entire stack. Our backend is built in NodeJS/Typescript, using MySQL and Redis, and OpenAPIspec for the API specification, connecting to the devices in the field over MQTT

What you'll do:

• Work on the backend of our apps and other interfaces, for customers, installers and internal teams.

• Connect to various (cloud) datasources and API’s and help us architect the best infrastructure.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features and enhancements for backend and mobile applications.

• Integrate with databases, third-party APIs, libraries, and SDKs to enhance functionality and performance.

• Troubleshoot and resolve application bugs, performance issues, and other technical challenges.

• Work with testing to ensure application stability and reliability.

• Together with the team brainstorm ideas on how to improve our internal processes and help us grow.

• You want to make a positive impact on the world and fight climate change.

• You should have a Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or Engineering) and 5+ years of experience in developing and deploying API’s in Node/Typescript.

• You understand web and mobile application architecture, including performance optimization and scalability.

• You have experience with integrating third-party APIs, libraries, and SDKs.

• You think about the whole end2end architecture, beyond the backend, in both the app and the rest of the architecture.

• You should possess strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve application bugs, performance issues, and other technical challenges.

• You are committed to staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in full-stack development, and proactively sharing your knowledge with the team.

• You do not require visa sponsorship to live and work in the Netherlands.

About Quatt

Quatt is an ambitious scaleup that was founded in 2021 by two entrepreneurs and brothers from the Netherlands. Our goal is to accelerate the transition to sustainable heating in the Netherlands and abroad. Our first product is a smart, hybrid heat pump for the Dutch market.

The Dutch government is strongly incentivizing 8 million homeowners to get rid of natural gas and start heating sustainably within the next few decades. Unfortunately, the current pace of heat pump installations is far too low. Therefore, Quatt is improving the overall customer experience, adding smart control software, simplifying the installation job and, last but not least, greatly enhancing the aesthetics. By doing so, we want to increase adoption by an order of magnitude.

We are developing a highly advanced control system based on several AI technologies, like Machine learning and Deep learning. This system enables us to operate our heat pumps, in conjunction with already installed natural gas heaters, in the most cost- or energy-efficient way, at any given day. We estimate this can reduce heating costs by about 20%. By combining this with D2C sales & installation, Quatt is aiming to reach a payback time of 3-4 years; and thus a very quick uplift in sales.
